Grosse Buchstaben, Grelle Farben

I am co-curator for the upcoming exhibition “Grosse Buchstaben, Grelle Farben” at the art museum Kunsthalle Emden, which opens this Saturday, August 15th. It is my first time curating and the show will be filling a  gap in the art world. Most exhibitions that involve graffiti writing focus on vandalism or its social aspects or how graffiti has evolved. But it is kept seperate from contemporary art and its institutions.

This exhibition focuses on the aestethics of letters, how letters are the image, not necessarily the message and you will find works by Delta, Dare, Egs or L’Atlas next to Norbert Bisky, Shilpa Gupta or Christian Thoelke. We want to build a bridge between two worlds and show how each one uses letters as the main creative element and how each influences the other. More than 20 artists will be on display and on opening night you can attend a panel. So, save the date and see you there!
